DFSC (Sai Kung District)
Welcome message from the Chairman of DFSC

Sai Kung is known as the "Backyard of Hong Kong," with its rolling hills, scattered islands, and villages rich in local culture. Meanwhile, the Tseung Kwan O New Town and industrial estate are vibrant and thriving. Precisely because of this unique blend of urban-rural integration and diversity, fire and disaster prevention efforts in the district bear the important responsibility of safeguarding the well-being of residents, while also facing new challenges arising from the interplay between historical traditions and modern development.

Looking back at historical factors, villagers are authorized by the government to conduct burials in designated locations. During the spring and autumn festivals of Ching Ming and Chung Yeung, countless filial descendants visit hillside cemeteries to pay respects to their ancestors. While this reflects a traditional Chinese virtue, it also marks a high-risk period for hill fires. The District Fire Safety Committee (Sai Kung District), with foresight, coordinates annually with the Fire Services Department, the Sai Kung District Office, and the Fire Services Department Community Emergency Responders Honorary Presidents' Association (Sai Kung District) to conduct public education campaigns at urban centers and the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery, promoting critical messages on hill fire prevention and caution with open flames, thereby taking preventive action.

With the rapid development of Sai Kung, densely populated residential estates have been completed one after another. The increasing population further highlights the urgency of home fire safety. In response, the District Fire Safety Committee (Sai Kung District) has taken proactive steps to distribute “Emergency Preparedness Kits” to residents, containing fire escape hoods, fire blankets, standalone fire detectors, and fire extinguishers. Firefighters provide live demonstrations on how to use these items, effectively enhancing residents' fire awareness and self-rescue capabilities. In light of the growing frequency of extreme weather in recent years, the Committee has also specifically visited local piers and boat mooring areas to conduct disaster preparedness outreach, comprehensively safeguarding the lives and property of citizens across different sectors.

The Committee will continue, as always, to collaborate with various government departments, community organizations, and enthusiastic individuals to organize more fire and disaster prevention campaigns in diverse formats with rich content, fostering a district-wide atmosphere of "everyone participates, everyone is responsible."

Let us work together, remain highly vigilant at all times, and build a safe, livable, and harmonious beautiful Sai Kung, creating a more secure and better living environment for all residents!
